The Art and Wilderness Community is dedicated to fostering a deeper connection between people and the natural world by encouraging exploring the outdoors, learning about and protecting nature and natural systems, drawing upon and implementing global wisdoms that guide us on how to live together with an increasingly beneficial impact, and aiming to regenerate a beautiful abundance from what has already been provided or left behind.
The Art and Wilderness Institute Community is dedicated to building community by providing experiences that inspire individuals to explore and appreciate the natural world, while also empowering them to take action to preserve it. Our goal is to make sustainability and stewardship a community habit and culture.

What We Do
At the Art and Wilderness Institute “AWI”, we are committed to connecting with nature, raising awareness and promoting values of stewardship through our outdoor, hands-on, “get muddy” learning philosophy. Students in our educational programming range from the budding two-year-old naturalist to the tenured retiree.
We also believe in giving back. Through a variety of projects and leadership opportunities, students plant trees, raise money to dig wells, assist refugees, and lead hikes for the elderly. We adhere to the belief that genuine learning is achieved through acts of stewardship and service. Collaborating with numerous partners, we actively contribute to making a wider positive impact. We are more than an Institute, we are community.
